I met my spouse in 2001. We were both waiting for our creative writing club to start, and at first, I didn’t think he'd be interested in me. But by the time we had our very first meeting, we quickly realized we had so much in common—our love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, our passion for writing fiction, and so much more.
He was bubbly and cheerful, the complete opposite of my more reserved nature. Yet, despite our differences, we found ourselves growing closer each time we met.
On November 25, 2001, we officially became a couple. Since then, over the course of the next 11 years, we’ve written, laughed, grieved, healed, and traveled together. More importantly, we've helped each other grow as people.
One of our favorite things to do has always been going on road trips. Little did we know, those small trips would lead to us traveling all the way to Argentina several years later. And we never imagined that gay marriage would become legal—yet it did. As of this post, we’ve been legally married for 8 months.
In honor of our 11th anniversary, I decided to share some photos of us throughout the years.
Looking back on everything we’ve experienced together, I’m filled with gratitude. Every challenge, every adventure, and every quiet moment has shaped our journey. It’s a privilege to walk through life with someone who not only understands me but truly supports me in becoming the best version of myself. Here’s to many more years of love, laughter, and growth together.
You guys look so happy together. I'm a retired, American expat living in Nepal and found it to be a very 'gay friendly' country. Men hold hands and are seldom seen out in public with a lady. There is no social dialogue about it. So, as I look around at everyone I wouldn't know who is and who isn't; they all act gay to me. lol.
ReplyDeleteI started thinking about what a lovely place Nepal would be for a gay honeymoon or a great place for gays to come for a vacation. There are strong laws against underage stuff, but I know that's not mainstream.
I also write. I wrote a book to help Western tourists to come to Nepal and have a great time on less money. I'm beginning to think they only love us for our money, but Nepal is an amazing, budget vacation. Hope you come and guest blog.
Hi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment. Nepal sounds great! What's the name of your book. I'd like to go to Nepal someday for a vacation.
